Tiago Almeida
Founder & editor
Old tech, retrocomputing and videogames enthusiast.
Tiago is a Brazilian living in Porto, Portugal, and the person behind Old Tech Geek. He grew up with computers at home: a Microdigital TK90X, a Gradiente Expert DD Plus (MSX), and a run of Intel and AMD PCs — 386, 486, Pentium, K6-2 — that added up to a lot of DOS gaming. That childhood is where “Old Tech Geek” comes from, and where his interest in retrocomputing, videogames and technology in general — mostly the old kind — never really went away.
He also works in tech professionally: a Cloud/DevOps Engineer with 25+ years of experience. Linux is a constant — twenty years on Debian before switching to Arch, going all the way back to Conectiva Linux as his first distro.
Outside computers, he’s a metalhead (Black Metal especially, though Metal and Punk broadly, plus Classical, Jazz, Synthpop, Eurobeat, Electronic and even K-Pop all get airtime), and a former Magic: The Gathering and pen-and-paper D&D player — which is more or less why CRPGs and RPGs are his favourite game genres.
