Gradiente Expert DD Plus

Gradiente was the main Brazilian licensee of the MSX standard, and the Expert DD Plus (1989) was the final and most ambitious machine in its Expert line: still MSX1 rather than MSX2 — Gradiente’s MSX2 machine never materialised, and the Expert line was discontinued the following year — but the first with a floppy drive built directly into the case, a 720 KB 3.5-inch unit, instead of relying purely on cartridges and cassette. The redesign also moved from the earlier Expert’s socketed chip set to a single custom ASIC in a new black case, a change that cut costs but introduced RAM-mapping bugs that caused crashes in some software — a rougher edge on what was otherwise the most capable machine Gradiente put on the Brazilian market.
