Commodore PET 2001

The PET 2001 (1977) was Commodore’s entry in what’s often called the “1977 trinity” — the same year the Apple II and TRS-80 Model I launched, the three machines usually credited with turning the personal computer into a real consumer product. Where the other two shipped as bare boards or add peripherals separately, the PET went all-in-one: monitor, keyboard, and cassette deck built into a single metal case. That integration came at a cost — the small, calculator-style “chiclet” keyboard was widely disliked and was one of the first things Commodore revised on later units.
